“At once a scholar’s homage to The Iliad and startlingly original work of art by an incredibly talented new novelist….A book I could not put down.”
—Ann Patchett

A tale of gods, kings, immortal fame, and the human heart, The Song of Achilles is a dazzling literary feat that brilliantly reimagines Homer’s enduring masterwork, The Iliad. An action-packed adventure, an epic love story, a marvelously conceived and executed page-turner, Miller’s monumental debut novel has already earned resounding acclaim from some of contemporary fiction’s brightest lights—and fans of Mary Renault, Bernard Cornwell, Steven Pressfield, and Colleen McCullough’s Masters of Rome series will delight in this unforgettable journey back to ancient Greece in the Age of Heroes.

This was a beautifully written book. I enjoyed looking at the Trojan war through the lens of Achilles’ lover, a lesser character in the original stories. Patroclus’s wise and balanced perspective showed the futility of men seeking greatness through their battlefield exploits. It was his attempts to end the conflict that were truly heroic.

This book is so good and heart-wrenching. I was intrigued the entire time I read this, and still was when I read it for the second time. Achilles and Patroclus are the definition of soul mates, and their love is so strong you want nothing more than for them to be together and happy. Although the ending is devastating and WILL leave you feeling empty or broken, I think it’s an absolute must-read. 1000/10

This is the epitome of beautifully written. I knew from the start that this was a book that could make me cry and lo’ and behold. Every sentence is so impactful it could be the start and end of a book. The author captures so many different versions of love and you can’t help but grow immensely attached to the two. My words fall short for this masterpiece.

“What has Hector ever done to me?” I didn’t realize a book could hurt me so much, but I loved every page. The writing was simple but poetic and profound. Their relationship was genuine and evolved effortlessly. Knowing the end only makes it more emotional because of the subtle foreshadowing. It’s the kind of book that, as you analyze it afterwards, you realize it’s so much more than you first thought. I look forward to rereading it. *Check trigger warnings

bruh the style, the description, the details of everything. the style was so beautiful. describing every little thing and going into deep detail ab his golden hair in the sunlight or the warm tears flowing like a hot stream. AND THE PLOT. there was an actual story to follow and details to remember and plot twists. i loved it. literally not a boring moment. and the ending too. it had a minor plot twist which resulted in a happy ending when i thought it wouldn’t. absolutely beautiful. 10/10
